Burrows, which are holes ranging from one to four inches wide with smooth edges, can indicate the presence of Brown rats, who often create complex tunnel systems with entrance holes of 70-120mm in diameter found in grassy banks or under tree roots. Black rat nests can be located indoors, typically in lofts, attics, or under floorboards in dark, less-frequented areas. Lastly, signs of gnawing, such as large, rough teeth marks on electrical cables, pipework, wooden fixtures, and plastic garbage cans, further confirm the presence of these rodents.
