You might not have heard of tree bumblebees before because they are a relatively new species to us, having arrived on our shores from Continental Europe during the last decade. Despite its only recent introduction to our island, the population of these bumble bees is growing rapidly and they have managed to spread out across all of the United Kingdom. They are often found in urban areas, so it is not uncommon for them to nest in gardens. Where do tree bumble bees nest?

These bumblebees like to nest in tree holes or in bird nesting boxes, in fact, they have been known to force birds out in order to take over a box. How do I know if I have a tree bumblebee problem?

The tree bumblebee is tri-striped turning from orange to black to white from its head to its tail. This pattern is very different from our native bumble bees so should make identifying them easy.
